Frequently Asked Questions

Clear answers about the credits, verification, insurance, retirement, and documentation.

A biochar CDR credit represents one metric tonne of carbon dioxide equivalent removed from the atmosphere and durably stored. Plants absorb carbon dioxide as they grow, then eligible biomass is converted into stable biochar through controlled heating in a low-oxygen environment. For the credits available through GreenTigre, the project's net removal must be measured and independently verified under the Insured Carbon Registry's requirements before the resulting credit is minted, tokenized, and insured through the Insured Carbon program. Unlike an avoidance credit, which represents emissions that did not occur, CDR addresses carbon already in the atmosphere.

GreenTigre gives registered business buyers one connected path from project-specific inventory to registry-confirmed retirement. Without that path, a corporate team may need to coordinate separately with producers, auditors, the registry, the insurance program, payment infrastructure, and retirement operations. Through GreenTigre, buyers can review available Biochar Now inventory by origin and quantity, request a quote, complete the transaction, follow retirement status, and access the resulting records. Each partner remains responsible for its part of the process. GreenTigre connects those roles through one clear buyer experience, keeping the selected credits tied to their source, verification, insurance, and final retirement evidence.

A project is not simply given a verified label. Credits shown as verified have completed the applicable independent third-party validation and verification process under Insured Carbon Registry requirements and the applicable methodology.

Verification documentation, audit evidence, and certificate references are maintained by vintage year and carbon-removal type to support enterprise diligence and independent review. GreenTigre relies on the applicable producer, verifier, registry, and insurance-program records and does not perform the verification itself.

Verification establishes whether the removal occurred and was quantified under the applicable methodology. Insurance adds a separate risk and accountability layer. Through AgriCap's Insured Carbon program, identifiable project risks are evaluated and actuarial analysis informs the coverage structure. AgriCap states that eligible credits receive 10 years of protection against qualifying invalidation by a recognized government authority, subject to the applicable policy. For a corporate buyer, confidence does not rest on a marketplace claim alone: the removal is independently verified, the registry controls issuance and retirement, and the policy provides a defined response if a covered event occurs. GreenTigre provides access to the insured inventory; it does not issue the policy or determine coverage, limits, exclusions, or remedies.

GreenTigre is designed for registered businesses that need a controlled, reviewable carbon transaction, not consumer offset purchases. The platform keeps evidence of the selected project, verified CDR volume, insurance status, payment, chain of custody, and registry-confirmed retirement connected to the transaction. These records can support mandatory sustainability disclosures, procurement and supplier requirements, audit review, and documented corporate action involving value-chain emissions, commonly called Scope 3. Whether a retirement satisfies a particular law, regulated market, or reporting framework depends on that program's rules. GreenTigre's role is to provide clear, audit-ready evidence so corporate teams can evaluate, approve, and document the transaction.

GreenTigre provides access to verified, insured, retirement-eligible Biochar Now inventory by project origin, subject to availability. Registered businesses can request a retirement quote for a specific location and quantity instead of purchasing an undisclosed blend. The quote identifies the project origin, vintage, quantity, price, and validity period before acceptance. This gives sustainability, procurement, finance, and legal teams a defined CDR purchase to review before the company commits, with the selected inventory carried through the partner retirement process to registry-confirmed retirement.

Biochar Now produces the biochar and supplies project-linked carbon-removal inventory. Independent third-party auditors validate and verify applicable projects under Insured Carbon Registry requirements. The Insured Carbon Registry records project and credit status, assigns applicable identifiers, records the credit lifecycle, and confirms retirement.

AgriCap supports the Insured Carbon program, coordinates the formal retirement workflow, and provides applicable retirement and insurance documentation. Fintiv supports payment processing, stored-value accounting, and settlement. GreenTigre provides the buyer-facing marketplace, communicates transaction status, and keeps the related evidence connected and accessible.

GreenTigre does not produce, own, issue, independently verify, insure, or retire the credits, and it does not create the authoritative retirement record.

After the registered buyer selects a project and quantity and accepts the quote, the required approval, payment, and credit-availability steps are completed. GreenTigre submits the transaction to AgriCap, AgriCap initiates the retirement, and the Insured Carbon Registry validates the request, retires the identified credits, records the blockchain event, and confirms completion. AgriCap then provides the retirement confirmation and documentation, Fintiv completes settlement, and GreenTigre updates the buyer-facing record. Quote acceptance or payment alone is not final proof. The process is complete when the Insured Carbon Registry confirms retirement. Buyers working toward a reporting deadline should identify it when requesting the quote.

Before credits are issued, the Insured Carbon Registry's validation and verification process confirms project ownership and exclusivity, and its rules do not allow the same project activity to be registered twice. Each issued credit receives a unique token ID and UUID, and its issuance, ownership, transfer, and retirement are recorded on the Polygon blockchain. When the credit is retired, the registry creates a permanent, immutable retirement record against that exact credit, preventing it from being sold, transferred, or retired again within the registry. This provides a traceable chain from verified issuance through final retirement.

After the Insured Carbon Registry records completion, AgriCap provides the formal retirement documentation available for the transaction. GreenTigre keeps the related quote, project origin, vintage, quantity, transaction status, and registry confirmation connected for buyer review, while Fintiv supports the related payment and settlement record.

The exact contents and delivery timing of the buyer package are governed by the applicable partner process and documentation. The Insured Carbon Registry record, not a GreenTigre-created certificate by itself, is the authoritative proof that retirement occurred.
